Midea Neo Air Fryer Toaster Oven Review: My Honest Take on the 12.7Qt 6-in-1 (Canada)
🔥 Looking for an honest Midea air fryer toaster oven review from Canada? After my basket-style Insignia air fryer was recalled, I switched to a completely different design — the Midea Neo 12.7Qt 6-in-1 toaster oven style. These are real photos of my own unit in my kitchen, not stock images. Here is what I genuinely love about it, and the one real downside you should know.
🙋 My Story: From Basket-Style to Toaster Oven Style
If you read my Insignia recall post, you know my old Insignia 3.4Qt basket air fryer was part of the 2022 Canadian recall. I claimed my $75 Best Buy gift card — and instead of buying another basket-style fryer, I deliberately ordered a different design this time: a toaster oven style.
Why small? I mostly cook in small quantities, so I did not want a big oven heating up for a handful of fries. The 12.7Qt is the compact size, and it tucks right into the corner of my counter.

🍟 What I Love: The Real-Life Wins
1. I can watch my food cook through the glass door.
This is my favorite thing about the toaster oven design. With my old basket fryer, checking meant yanking the basket out and losing all the heat. Now I just look through the front glass — without opening the door, no guessing.
2. Faster cooking, and no flipping — in my experience.
In my experience, the bottom heating element plus the fan on the ceiling circulates hot air so well that cooking time is noticeably shorter than my old basket fryer. And here is the big one: with the basket style, I had to flip everything halfway for evenly cooked results. With the Midea, I do not flip at all — it comes out done on both sides. That alone makes weeknight cooking so much easier.
3. It is small and fits in the corner.
The 12.7Qt footprint is compact. Mine lives in the corner of the counter and does not dominate the kitchen.
4. Toast mode fits 4 slices at once.
Four slices of bread in a single batch — breakfast for the family in one go.
5. French fries in the mesh basket are phenomenal.
Toss fries in the air fry basket and they come out genuinely crispy. Late at night, a batch of fries and a cold beer — honestly, it does not get better than that.

📦 What Comes in the Box
Four accessories, all shown here in my own photos:
- Air fry basket — mesh basket for crispy results
- Enamel baking tray — for baking and catching drips
- Baking rack — for toast and general use
- Crumb tray — slides out from the bottom for easy cleaning

📏 12.7Qt vs 21.1Qt: Which Size?
Midea sells two sizes. Mine is the 12.7Qt — right for small-quantity cooking. The 21.1Qt is much taller and wider. Measure your counter and overhead cabinet clearance before choosing.

❌ The Honest Downside: Usable Capacity
I will be straight with you: the real usable capacity is smaller than the 12.7Qt number suggests. My old basket fryer let me pile food high — I could fit 3+ rows of thick pork belly slices using the full depth of the basket, and the non-stick basket was easy to wash.
The Midea’s shelf design fits about 2 rows per rack. Want more? You need to use a second tray. And because it is a shelf type, any food touching the side walls is a pain to clean. That is the one genuine trade-off of this design — something to know if you regularly cook big batches.
💰 Price in Canada
I bought mine on Amazon.ca. One tip from experience: prices on Amazon.ca tend to dip during Amazon sale events. The next one is Prime Big Deal Days (October Prime Day), October 6–7 — if you are not in a hurry, it is worth waiting a few days to see if this model gets an extra discount. The US listing was rated 4.2 out of 5 stars from 146 reviews when I checked, with 50+ bought in the past month.
🎯 Who Should Buy It
- You cook in small quantities and do not want to heat a full-size oven
- You are switching from a basket fryer and want to see your food while it cooks
- You hate flipping food halfway through cooking
- You like simple knob controls over touchscreens
- You need a Canadian (bilingual) version
If you regularly cook large batches (party-size pork belly nights!), the bigger 21.1Qt — or a second tray — is worth considering.
⭐ My Verdict
I am fully satisfied so far. It cooks faster than my old basket fryer, I never flip anything, I can watch everything through the glass, and it fits in the corner. The late-night fries-and-beer test? Passed with flying colours. Just go in knowing the usable capacity is modest — for small-quantity everyday cooking, it is exactly right.
