My Favorite Tiramisu Cake in Montréal: Première Moisson (Atwater Market)

Bonjour! This is J., documenting a beautiful life.

This is a genuine review from my own purchase — not sponsored.

On the second floor inside Atwater Market, there’s a bakery I always stop by: Boulangerie Première Moisson. It’s a famous bakery chain in Québec — the kind of place where every location delivers above-average quality, so I buy with confidence.

What I love about Première Moisson is their consistency. Whether it’s bread, pastries, or celebration cakes, the quality is always reliable — the kind of place where you can pick anything from the display and know it will be good. Their products are made with care, and you can taste it. After trying countless bakeries around Montréal over the years, I can tell you that kind of consistency is rare and precious.

🍰 My Favorite Tiramisu Cake in Montréal

Their tiramisu cake is my favorite tiramisu in all of Montréal! Not too sweet, with a refined, elegant taste. The mascarpone cheese flavor is so well balanced that it never gets boring, slice after slice.

What makes it special is the texture. The mascarpone cream is silky and light — never heavy or overly rich. The ladyfinger layers are soaked just enough to carry that gentle coffee flavor without becoming soggy. Each bite melts in your mouth, and the balance between the cream, the coffee-soaked sponge, and the cocoa dusting on top is simply perfect. I’ve had tiramisu at Italian restaurants that cost twice as much and didn’t taste half as good.

🍫 The Dacquoise Around It Is Delicious Too

The dacquoise attached around the outside is delicious too. Together with the cream, it’s perfect. The cross-section shows layers of mascarpone cream — beautiful and tasty.

🛒 What Else to Try There

While you’re at the Atwater Market location, don’t leave without browsing their full display. Their choux cream puffs are legendary — but they sell out fast, so go early! The fruit tarts, éclairs, and seasonal pastries are all excellent. I often go in for “just the tiramisu” and walk out with a bag full of extras. Consider yourself warned.

⏰ Timing Tips for Atwater Market

Atwater Market is a wonderful place to spend a morning, but keep in mind that it closes earlier than you might expect — and the popular bakeries inside sell out of their best items by afternoon. My advice: go in the morning, grab your tiramisu cake first (especially on weekends), then enjoy browsing the market’s produce, cheese, and flower stalls at a leisurely pace. If you’re planning a celebration, you can even call ahead to reserve.

🎂 Perfect for Celebrations

This tiramisu cake has become my go-to for birthdays and family gatherings. It serves about 7 people, and you can have a message written on chocolate — which makes it feel personal and festive. Every time I bring it to a party, someone asks where it’s from. It’s elegant enough for a special occasion but not so precious that you feel guilty cutting into it.
